2020 Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards

Young Achiever

Now in their second year, the Royal Automobile Club's Historic Awards are a set of annual accolades recognising excellence and outstanding contributions to the UK's historic motoring and motorsport industries. The Club has been at the heart of the motoring world since its formation in 1897, and the Historic Awards are a natural continuation of a rich heritage

StarterMotor, along with our friends at Brewin Dolphin, supported the 2020 Young Achiever award. The category finalists were:

• Liam Howel (Jim Clark Trust and Jim Clark Motorsport Museum)

• Jack Bond (Tip Top Engineering and VSCC)

• Harry Ruffell-Hazell (CMC)

The winner on the night was Jack Bond, and well deserved too.

The awards featured seven other categories including Competitive Event, Outstanding Journalism, Personality, Restoration and more, and took place on 28th January 2021. Here are all the winners.

Personality

The Personality award, supported by Hero Era, was won by Janice Pitchforth.

Janice has been instrumental in promoting and developing apprenticeships and is a director of the Heritage Skills Academy. At a time when there has been a marked decline in engineering training opportunities in the motoring sector, she has bucked the trend by matching 25 new employees with apprentices since the Covid lockdown in March, and is overseeing the expansion of the academy with the opening of an additional training centre at Brooklands.

2021 GRRC Designated Charity

Image

The Goodwood Road Racing Club has extended StarterMotor's 'designated charity' status to the end of 2021. Plans for 2020 had to be cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

The Members Meeting is scheduled to take place 15th - 16th May and StarterMotor will be there in the paddock working in partnership with Haynes Manuals. Six Heritage Skills Academy apprentices will be demonstrating historic Land Rover repairs and helping present the importance of introducing the next generation to the old car world.
